Nightmare on Well St is Eli Carvajal’s first album recorded in a professional studio and his first made in London, where he grew up. After five records made alone at home, the last two in Japan, he took eleven new songs to All Is Joy in Soho with his friend Dom Shaw, who produced, engineered and mixed it. Dom won a Grammy engineering Peter Gabriel’s i/o; between them, the two play most of the instruments. Friends fill out the sound: Nathan Pigott (Deadletter) on bass clarinet, Charlie Schnurr (Blanco White, Leif Vollebekk) on violin, Bryony Lloyd on vocals.

The songs are closely observed and playful, exploring intimacy, family history and the cities they were written in: London, Tokyo, Shanghai. The lyrics move laterally between the poetic and the absurd, over folk-ish roots with experimental branches. It’s his most immediate record yet.

Open-hearted, wide-eyed and playful, London singer-songwriter Eli Carvajal writes of lived experience in intimate, intense detail. Fingerpicking left-handed on an upside-down guitar, he unwinds his story-songs in layers around shimmering open tunings. His fifth album, Eyen Forever (Safe Suburban Home, 2025), was recorded in his Tokyo bedroom with Mount Fuji just visible in the distance. It closes a two-album diary of loss and love from his two and a half years in Japan.
